The Tale of Peter Rabbit 2017 50p

The Tale of Peter Rabbit 50p design was the second of three Peter Rabbit 50p designs released as part of the Beatrix Potter 50p collection.  It is the most commonly found of all 3 Peter Rabbit 50ps but still sought after by collectors if it’s in good enough condition.

The design on the coin represents the same image on the front cover of the book by the same name which features Peter in his blue jacket.  The title of the book surrounds the image of Peter who’s in the centre.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit 50p is relatively common in relation to most commemorative 50’s it is still worth higher than face value in very good to excellent condition.  The highest value version of the coin is one in uncirculated condition.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit is one of the more commonly found 50p designs from the Beatrix Potter range and commemorative 50ps in general.

This particular Peter Rabbit design is twice as commonly found as the 2016 Peter Rabbit 50p.  It is 14 times more common than the later 2018 Peter Rabbit which is one of the top 10 rarest 50ps.

However, if you are just starting out coin collecting it makes it cheaper to get hold of in excellent to uncirculated condition if you are looking to add a quality piece to your collection.

About The Tale of Peter Rabbit

The Tale of Peter Rabbit is the title of the first-ever book written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter. It was initially self-published in 1901 in very limited numbers with the intention of distributing copies amongst family and friends.

The well-known author Arthur Conan Doyle who also created another very well-known character who featured on the Sherlock Holmes 50p coin was one of the first 250 people to purchase a copy for his children.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit is considered one of the best stories ever written for children. Today there are over 40 million copies sold worldwide and the book is available in 36 languages.

The story itself is about a little rabbit named Peter, who gets in trouble for not listening to his mother. He steals some vegetables from Mr McGregor’s garden and has to run away when spotted, losing his jacket and shoes in the process (which he attempts to get back in a later story with Benjamin Bunny who also has his own 50p design.

Among other characters in the story, Peter’s sister Flopsy Bunny is also featured in the story and as well as her own 50p coin design.

Today, The Tale of Peter Rabbit is considered part of Britain’s literary heritage and is one of the best known and loved children’s stories in the world.
